Waiting for TA

Hi Friends and Family

Just wanted to update you on a few things.  First of all we are officially on the last step until our journey to China.  We are waiting for our TA (Travel Approval) date.  We should receive this date within the next 1.5-3weeks.  Please keep us in prayer as the timing of this date is very crucial with the Christmas Holidays in play.  When we receive this TA we will travel within 10-21 days and will have to get our Visa during this time.  So your prayers are appreciated.

I wanted to let you know that the agency sent me information about a need for the Henan Orphanages: Donations to orphanages (Attention Henan Families)
The Henan orphanages are in need of winter clothing for children up to 18 months old (onesies & winter sweaters), small hand towels, bibs as well as toys that make sounds (new items or barely used please!).  Also, we are in need of bottles for cleft lip and palate kids as well as nursing pillows for the Lily Orphan Care Centers.  Please give the donated items to your CCAI rep once you arrive in Henan.  We know the babies and orphanage staff will be appreciative!  Thank you so much.

If anyone wants to donate to the Orphanages we are more than happy to take them on our trip :).

Update on Luke:
We received information on him a few weeks ago.  They said that he is NOT potty trained :(.  He goes to sleep easily but likes to sleep with a red blanket.  He likes salty food.  He likes slides.
He weighs around 30 pounds and wears around a 6 in shoes.  He is in good health.

One Step Closer!

Yesterday we got an email stating that our adoption agency received the electronic LOA and that the hard copy would be in within a week or two. This means that we are one step closer to the final day! We also received an email saying that we will get an update on Luke and should get more pictures. We are so excited to be one step closer! Looks like we will get Luke in December or early January. We will keep you updated on the status just as soon as we hear things.  Thank you for all your prayers and support through this journey!!

Picture Fun

We are currently still waiting on our letter from China to travel.  Last week we got a package from our agency with Luke's original papers.  It is so cool to look at the actual documents from his "file" and to see the original pictures :).  We are so ready to go get him!!  We can't wait for the next step.  In the mean time we are trying to prepare for his arrival and we pray for him everyday.

Last week my sister Amanda did a mini photo-shoot and we raised $750.  It was so much fun to be her assistant and watch all the families that came.  If you haven't seen her amazing work check out her website http://www.amandasuanne.com or find her on Facebook.

Here are a few pictures from the photo-shoot:

Thank you Amanda for all your hard work and for donating 100% of the funds to help bring Luke home.  We also would like to thank the families who donated to our You Caring account:  Smith Family, Ekenseair Family, Norman Family, Jones Family, Michie Family, Hicks Family and Fields Family.
We feel so blessed by all the support from our family and friends.

SO WHAT IS NEXT?

Next we are waiting on China to send us a LOA (Letter of Acceptance) which gives us the right to go and pick up Luke.  This process can take 2-3 months.  After that letter we will have to wait another 10-14 weeks (because of paperwork) to go to China.   As you know, everything thus far has taken a shorter amount of time then they predicted so we have a feeling it may go a little faster.  If things go along the time line they project we will have him in January.
Although I can't wait to see him, I have a peace and know that he is okay.  I am very excited and think about him all the time!  We got to send him a care package this week.  We filled the box with clothes, toys, and a photo album of our family with the Chinese words in it so he would know who we are and a few other goodies.  I am dreaming of what it's going to be like when we arrive in China.  I am trying to stay focused on paperwork, fundraising and preparing for his arrival.  Also, we have around 15 Emerge students arriving in a month that I am preparing for.  Our family is continuing to grow :)

Over the last week we have felt and experienced the love of God in such an amazing way.  His grace, peace and joy has overwhelmed our lives.  I feel so broken and amazed at all the ways I am seeing Him move in each of our lives.  Our family had an awesome "God Moment" on Monday.  I went to check the mail and opened an envelope from a friend and there was a $10,000 check in it.  I almost passed out and then began screaming Jerimy's name and couldn't stop crying.  I called it a Miracle in the Mailbox!  The letter that was with the check was so sweet and encouraging.  They told us in the letter "This is about seeing God move for His children.  This is God moving for Luke"  They ended the letter with this scripture: Psalm 115:1 "Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory".  Wow!!  God loves His children!  We feel so blessed, humbled and honored to have the Lord move in our lives in this way.

We have had friends step up and are doing fund raisers for us.  I thought you may want to see what is happening:

1)If you wear Mary Kay.....
My friend Faith Gladding Is donating 100% of her profit to our adoption fund. Anyone can go to her website www.marykay.com/fgladding and can order or call with orders. When you call or go online you have to say that this is for the Kanady Baby Fund. She will ship or deliver! She also has books if you need one.

2)Need new family photo's?  My talented sister Amanda Sueanne is holding a meni-session photo shoot in Watercolor, FL this Tuesday from 1PM-7:30PM.  She is giving a discounted rate of $100 for a mini-session with digital files (Which means you can print what and whenever you want)!  100% of the proceeds will go towards the adoption.   Check out her website to see how awesome she is.
To book email amanda@amandasuanne.com

3) Want to enjoy a yummy meal and music?
Our friends Dan and Liz Steinberger is hosting a "Concert on the Lawn" with a delicious meal, silent auction and music by our family and friends.  Cost is $20 (donation) at the door.  I know this will be a fun time celebrating the gift of adoption.  We only have room for 100 friends, to attend please RSVP to dizlan@yahoo.com

Our family would like to thank everyone who has blessed us with prayers, encouragement and financially!!!  We pray that our adoption helps open the door for more families to bring home an orphan.

Psalm 115:1 "Not to us, O Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory".

Xu Jia He

We are so excited to introduce to you our son Luke Jeremiah Kanaday!!!!!

Here is his story:

This male infant was abandoned on March 10, 2012, next to the intersection of Gongnong Road and Xuyou Road.  After a kind-hearted citizen discovered him, they reported it to the police and the Xuchang City Public Security Bureau Economic and Technological Development District Division Police performed a thorough search, but they were unable to find the birth parents or other relatives of the child and they determined him to be abandoned.  That same day, the police station police brought him to the Xuchang City Social Welfare Institute.  A physical examination when he entered the institute recorded that he was 47 cm tall, weighed 3.1 kg, had a head circumference of 38 cm, a chest circumference of 36 cm and a foot length of 9 cm.  He had congenital heart disease.  Based on his physical condition, his date of birth was estimated to be March 8, 2012.  He was given the name Jia He.
After entering the institute, little Jia He received great care.  Under the care of the nannies, he slowly grew bigger and when he was 8 months old, he grew his first baby tooth.  When he was 10 months old, he could walk in a walker and when he was one year and three months old, he learned how to walk.  Now, Jia He can run, jump and go up and down stairs.  He responds when you call his name and he can call out the names of the little children in his room.  When guests are leaving, he will show them out and when the nannies finish their shifts, he will always kiss their faces then stick out his little hands and say, “hug.”  When the nannies get to the door, he doesn’t’ forget to blow kisses to them.  Every person that sees him likes him.  Xu Jia He’s life is one of routine and he wakes up and eats at 7:00 am, goes to the early education center at 8:00 am where the teachers teach him to talk, sing songs, dance and recognize simple characters.  At 10:00 am he has a snack, at 11:10 am he returns to the Grape group, washes up, eats food and then naps.  At 2:30 pm he wakes up, eats, goes to class and then ends class at 5:30 pm.  After ending class, he washes up, eats and then goes downstairs for activities.  At 9:00 pm he drinks milk, washes up and then sleeps!  He can play on the slide, go up and down the stairs while using his hands to support himself, he can call out ma ma and he has learned what to call dogs and cats.

Our journey.....

It is both amazing and humbling to think that on the other side of the world, this child will soon call out ma ma and da da to Jerimy and I.  We know that God has called our family on this journey of adoption.  Nevertheless, we also know that just like it has taken our extended family, friends and spiritual family to help us raise and nurture our biological children it will take the same partnership for Luke as well.  Although at times we are reluctant to ask, we know that Luke is going to need all the love, prayers and support that FAMILY can give.  We believe Psalm 68:6 that says "God places the lonely in families".  Although we know that Luke's specific family will be ours, we want to take this opportunity to ask you to open up your lives to become part of it as well.
There are many ways that family provide support for its members.  Today we want to ask you to consider a few of those ways.  First, we want to ask you to be praying for both Luke, Jerimy, Hope, Josiah and I as we prepare for our worlds to collide and become one.  Pray that the remainder of the adoption will fall into place peacefully and smoothly.  Secondly, we want to ask you to consider helping us financially as we seek to raise and invest the remaining monies to complete the process.  That figure is around $22,000 and includes agency fees, visas, orphanage fees, travel and Luke's ticket home:)  Lastly, we believe that God may have used this journey he has called us on to possibly awaken something in you.  Our desire is that you listen to the whispers of heaven and say "Yes" if He may be asking you to consider adopting.  We know that for many of you, your family role may be all three but for others it may only be one.  Whatever way that you can partner with our family please know how grateful we are and know that one day Luke will thank you personally as well.

Here are the two ways you can give financially:

BIG NEWS!!! It's a ........

BOY!!!!!

Yesterday afternoon I got a phone call from our adoption agency.  I was surprised and thought that I must have filled out some paperwork incorrectly. But, the lady on the other end of the line said "I am calling today to let you know we have a match for your family".  I was in shock and really excited.   She said "He is a little boy, 2 years old and so cute".  She went on to share that at birth he had a small hole in his heart and latest medical records show that it is gone and he is doing great!  So, she sent me his file and we have completely fallen in love with him.
Today consisted of us talking with our family and friends, and praying.  We took his medical records to our Doctor and she gave us the green light and says he looks great.  Then we had a family meeting to confirm that everyone agreed he was ours.  The Lord gave us the scripture, Acts 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us'.."

This afternoon, July 31st our family made the decision to bring this little boy home!!  I am not able to release his picture or info online yet.  Next week we will post his picture and share his name.
Thank you for your prayers and support!  We can't believe how fast this has all come together.  The Lord's hand has really been in every detail.  We should have him home by January 2015 unless the Lord decides he needs to come home sooner.
Can't wait to share more!!

Amazing Week

This week has been a productive week in our Adoption Process!  Monday we got a bunk bed in preparation for our new addition.  That was exciting :)  It's in Josiah's room and he is hoping for a boy to share his room with.
We also got word on Monday that we received a $5,000 grant from Show Hope!  We are so very excited about this as Show Hope has been a very vital roll in our journey of adoption.  We are blessed to receive a grant from them and join the family of Show Hope!
On Thursday July 17th we got word that the CCWA (China Center for Children's Welfare and Adoption) has accepted our paper work and we are officially in their system with a LID (Log In Date).  This means that we can look at files and begin the process of finding our child.
Thank you all for your prayers!  God is moving... quickly.
Our prayer focuses during this time:

  • The Lord will highlight who we are supposed to adopt.
  • Favor with the CCWA.
  • Our child will be safe and taken care of.
  • Our child will fit well in our family and receive the love we will give them.
  • The Lord will provide the finances above and beyond what we need so we can help someone else who is called to adopt.

Paperwork in China

We officially have sent off all the paperwork!  Our Dossier is in Colorado right now being translated to Chinese!!  It should be sent to China this week.  It's so crazy to think how close we are.  Pretty soon we will find out who our new son or daughter will be.  Please pray that all the paperwork will be accepted in China... no hang-ups in Jesus name.
We have had so many wonderful friends support us in this journey.  We couldn't have made it without your prayers, support and financial blessings.  Our family wanted to let you know that we have set up and easy way to give online if you feel led to partner with us.  We have to raise about $25,000 more dollars.  The next cost in the stage through the agency is $4,000.  Our dream would be to raise more than we need to be able to help another family who want to adopt.
Please prayerfully consider helping us bring home an orphan. We have set up a fund at our church DWC.  If you would like to give a tax detuctiable gift you can give to Destiny Worship Center and write "Kanaday Global Mission" in the Memo.  You can pay online under the online giving at http://www.destinyworshipcenter.com/give-online/

We also have set up a "You Caring" account online.  This is not tax detectable but an easy way to give.  There are no fees associated with this account.

Thank you again to all our friends and loved ones who have given already!  xoxox

All Paperwork Complete!

The last few months on this Adoption Journey has been a time where we have seen the Lord move.  Last month (April) we had our fingerprints taken in LA on a Tuesday.  It was the week before Easter and we had SO much at the church going on.  The Department of Homeland security issued us a date and we had to be there on that date and time!  We were a little nervous about the process of getting there and making sure that we were on time.  We left on Monday night and spent the night near New Orleans.  We got to enjoy "Canes" and other yummy Louisiana treats :)  Our appointment was at 8am on Tuesday so we found the building we had to go to the night before.  When we woke up and headed to the Homeland Security office, it really wasn't as bad as we had imagined.  The people were kind and moved very quickly... we were maybe there 30 minutes.  This process of fingerprints was the last step in our paperwork trail.  We were very excited but were expecting the process to take a long time.  While we were in LA the DWC staff had their usual staff prayer time.  They prayed that our adoption process would be quick and the new normal for adoptions and that when people asked about our adoption we would have an encouraging story.  Well, I believe that God heard their prayers because 3 days after our appointment.. which happened to be Good Friday we go our I-800A form back!  It seemed like a miracle to me.  The I-800A form basically states that Jerimy and I are cleared from the USA to adopt.   We felt very blessed to get the form back so quickly!
I immediately put it in the mail to be certified and then after I got that back I sent it to TX to get authenticated.   I have gotten that back and now we will send that off to the agency to complete our Dossier.  The agency will be sending that to China soon!!  At this point in the journey we are praying and believing for the financial resources to keep the process moving forward.  Thank you all for your prayers and support!!

Paperwork and Steven Curtis Chapman

Well, it's been a while sense I have been able to sit down and update you all about the adoption.  I have been loaded down with all the paper work that is required to adopt from China :).  I am very proud to say.. I am almost done!!!  The home study is complete and I sent off a very important form this week to China.  So, hopefully we can begin our search for our child within the next two months. I will let you know when we begin our search.  We will need your prayers.
Last night Jerimy and I attended a Steven Curtis Chapman concert and served with his ministry Show Hope.  I would encourage you to check out the ministry at www.showhope.org.  Jerimy and I got to meet Geoff Moore (from Geoff Moore and the Distance) who is Steven Curtis Chapman's best friend and advocate for Orphans.  During the concert we handed out information to people who were interested in partnering with Show Hope.  We were able to connect with a couple of families who have adopted from China and even were surprised and blessed when a few ladies from DWC showed up to serve.  We also, met a man named David who works with the ministry and told us so many stories about China and The Chapman's journey.  If you haven't read the book "Choosing to SEE" by Beth Chapman, you have to read it!!!  David and Geoff shared with us all the stories in the book that were about them.  It was sweet to see how they are all just a big family and very down to earth.  We were so happy to give back to them as Steven Curtis Chapman and Show Hope have been a very important role in our adoption journey.  Steven and his family are such a beautiful example of Christianity.  I believe they are a family of integrity, faithfulness, and love.  Here is small glimpse of last night.  God bless.

An Online Miracle- God is Faithful

An Online Miracle- God is Faithful

December 5th 2013, I was staying up late working on a picture calendar for my family.  I had to get it finished by Midnight to catch a sale.  As soon as I was done, I thought I would check out my numbers for the t-shirt sale we were holding.  It was then that I realized that my sale ended in 24 hours and I had to reach a big goal or the T-shirts would not be made and no funds would be collected.  I was in little bit of shock and disbelief when I realized that my first attempt to raise funds could be a failure. We had to sell at least 50 shirts or the company would not print them.  We were only half way to our goal.

I laid in bed worrying about how we were going to sell over 25 shirts in one day, when we had barely sold that many in a month.  So I prayed and asked the Lord to help me and told him that I trusted Him.  I surprisingly was able to go to sleep and not lay awake thinking about it.  The next morning I started emailing friends and family and posting it on Facebook.  I was in shock as the numbers began to climb. Before the day was over we sold a little over 50 shirts and were able to complete our fundraiser so the shirts could be made.  We raised over $700 in one day and our total raised was $1000 for the whole fundraiser!!  It was a miracle :)

I feel so blessed by God's Faithfulness and by the support of our friends and family.  The Kanaday Family would like to say a special thank you to everyone who was able to buy a shirt or donated online through the website.  We received the t-shirts last week before Christmas.  I love seeing all of our friends wearing them.  If you purchased one please send me a picture or post it on Facebook or Instagram #kanadayadoption

To all of our friends who weren't able to buy a t-shirt  and want one, we are looking to do another sale closer to the end of the adoption process.  I will keep you posted.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!  As 2013 comes to end we pray a special blessing over you.  Looking forward to 2014!

Chloe and Hope being silly in the hospital
The past few weeks have been crazy! I have found a new appreciation for my family, friends and food. Two weeks ago my 3 year old niece Chloe was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. My sister Amanda took Chloe to the Doctor with symptoms of a UTI and after a test, was told to get to the hospital imediately due to glucose in her urine. They took Chloe to Sacred Heart in Pensacola and test came back positive for diabetes and she was admitted to the hospital for 4 days. While at the hospital the Doctors and Nurses trained Josh and Amanda on how to care for Chloe.  Her life is depending on them.  Amanda and Josh are amazing parents and I am so proud of their courage and strength.
Chloe will be on a strict diet only getting 33 Carbohydrates a meal.  She will get a shot before every meal and before she goes to bed.  They have to prick her finger several times a day to monitor her blood sugar.  There are a few foods she can eat that are "safe free" (as she calls it).. below is a picture of her eating string cheese.  She was excited she could have it.  Chloe has always enjoyed food.. she's a good eater.
We praise God that Chloe will be okay and that they found this quickly and that it is treatable.  We have to choose to think on good things.  Life could be worse.  Although this journey may be difficult, Chloe is alive and will live a great life.  Romans 8:28-29 "And we know that in ALL things, God works for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose."  We have to believe that God will heal her and will work this all out for the good.  I believe in Miracles!
This Thanksgiving I am thankful for my family.  I am so blessed with an amazing family who all love Jesus.  I am thankful for my friends.. I feel so blessed by the friendships that I have created over the past few years in Destin along with my life long friends I have had since childhood.  I am also thankful that the Lord is calling us to adopt from China.  I am humbled and in awe in the goodness of Christ.

T-Shirt Sale ends December 5th.  If you'd like to help us kick start the adoption please follow the link below.  Shirts are $15 and there is a $5 shipping fee.

Blessings

This week has been an emotional week. Our friends Jeremy and Amy Neel delivered their third baby. After the birth the baby faced life threatening conditions. His lungs had several wholes in them and collapsed.  He was rushed to a NICU in Pensacola. Then 48 hours later Amy was admitted to ICU having difficulties breathing. The paramedic  thought she wasn't going to make it.
Then within 24 hours and lots of prayers both the baby and Mom are healed and Doctors are amazed. It was a bad storm but in the end God answered every prayer.  It was amazing to journey with them and see the hand of The Lord move. It was also beautiful to watch the body of Christ rise up. All the prayers, gifts, hugs, meals and tears that were shared were priceless.  We are so blessed to have a church that believes in family.
The Body of Christ is one of the most beautiful things.  It blesses me seeing the love of God being poured out by others.   It's very humbling and moving when friends and family rally to help you with a dream. Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement, and financial gifts.  This week we have been blessed financially 3 times by random checks in the mail, $550 in two days.  Also, many friends have given online and purchased a Tshirt.

Standing amazed at the faithfulness of Christ. The journey continues......

HOPE'S TROPICANA SPEECH

Hope Kanaday
October 29, 2013

“Make Your Mark”

Somewhere thousands of miles away there is a child sitting around with many other kids.  These kids don’t have a mother, a father, or even an uncle and aunt to stay with.  These kids live in all places around the world like Haiti, Ecuador, Ukraine, Scotland and even here in America.  These kids are orphans and they have totally different lives than us.  For this reason, my family is reaching out to the country of China to adopt a child.

The CCAI is sending my family a galore amount of packets and forms needing to be filled out and signed.  First of all, I said the CCAI not the CSI television show.  The CCAI stands for the Chinese Children Adoption International.  The CCAI is the adoption service my family has chosen to use.  They have been in service for two decades and are rated number one in overall excellence worldwide by the China Center for Children’s Welfare and Adoption. Adoption costs over 30,000 dollars! That’s is about how much a Toyota 4-Runner cost. Wow, I wish I had that kind of money in my back pocket! We are not sure what gender we will have joining our family, but we do know some sad and unfair laws are unforced in China.  To begin with, the nation of China has a strict one-child policy.  This country threatens girls and favors boys!  China has 32 million more boys than girls because parents face strict birth limits.  This result means there are more females to adopt in China.  This is really sad.  Boys, you probably feel pretty awesome right now, but I assure you that girl’s rock.

My family has always had the desire to adopt.  I am confident in this incredibly brave decision we have made.  I can’t wait to have another brother or sister.   Now that we’ve taken a bigger step into this process, I realize that it is going to change my family so much.  There will be many exciting days ahead for us but also some challenges as well.  One small challenge will be learning to share a room with someone you hardly know.  No one ever said that it would be easy making your mark from one nation to another, but we are ready to make ours.

Please help us raise the funds for adoption. Buy a cool T-shirt :)

Why China?

I have had a lot of people ask me "why China?"

Around 10 years ago I was watching The Oprah Show and it was about Chinese Orphanages.  The story was very heartbreaking to me.  A reporter had gone undercover into orphanages and recorded the horrific conditions.  The images have stuck with me to this day.  As I was watching the show I felt for the first time like I wanted to adopt from China.  I shared my heart with Jerimy and he was open to it.
Then a few year later he and I went to a Steven Curtis Chapman concert.  This was before their terrible accident happened.  Steven spoke about adoption and it stirred up the desire even more in both of us.  Then a few years later, I read Mary Beth Chapman's book "Choosing To See"....If you haven't read that book you need to :).  This book confirmed my desire to adopt from China.
Over the past few years we have been praying about this decision.  Our daughter, Hope had a vision one weekend in church about adopting from China.  She wrote us a letter describing what she saw.  Hope has always been a dreamer, the Lord speaks to her through visions and dreams.  She was very adamant for weeks that we had to adopt from China.  She asked us almost everyday.  Hope is also very determined :).  She kept asking us to pray about it.
I began researching how to adopt and felt very overwhelmed with the information that I found.  I met with my friend from church who had adopted and she gave me some leads.  Jerimy felt like we needed to wait... it just wasn't the right time (this was about a year ago).
Then this year after Easter when we went to Nashville, TN we found Steven Curtis Champan's ministry, Show Hope.  We went in and spoke with a lady and she guided us to CCAI Adoption Agency.  We finally felt released to move forward in the process.

We just kicked off our T-shirt sale click here if you'd like to help us bring home a child

Ladybug

Why a ladybug?
After Jerimy and I decided to move forward in adopting last Spring, I kept seeing ladybugs everywhere.  I would see one in my car, on my car, sitting at a restraurant.... On and on.  I began to wonder why? I asked God, asked Jerimy and of course googled it :). I heard and read things about Trusting God. So I held on to that and everytime I see one, I remind myself to trust Him. Well a few weeks ago at church, I shared with a couple (Dan and Liz Steinberger) who adopted a little girl from China, that we were beginning the process. Dan imediately said "Have you been visited by the Ladybug yet?". I almost burst into tears! I was like "You mean actual ladybugs?" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. They went on to tell me that as soon as they began the process of adoption they saw ladybugs everywhere. They also told me that several couples they talked with had the same experience.
I am not one to chase signs but I truly believe that God is using it to show me he loves me and I can trust Him. Also, that he loves a child somewhere in China that needs to come home to our family.
So when we went to design our T-shirt I asked them to put a ladybug on it.  So if you are ordering one you can remind yourself to Trust God and that he loves and cares for all the small details of our lives.. Just like the beautiful detail he put into a tiny ladybug.  www.bonfirefunds.com/kanaday-chinese-adoption
